AN OVERVIEW OF THE CAUSES OF OVERWEIGHT & OVEREATING
Fatigue whatever the cause of the fatigue, it can cause the brain to want carbohydrates to boost energy
Poor digestion causes toxicity leading to water retention, increased hunger leading to more calories, can cause you to overeat despite your stomach being full
Insulin Resistance (pre-diabetes) and Diabetes increases fat building, carbohydrate cravings lead to overeating, usually starts with hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) slows metabolism in order to get by on less fuel. Even low-normal blood sugars can cause this problem when not managed with diet.
Overeating due to physiological (e.g., poor digestion) or psychological (e.g., depression) influences
Hypothyroidism slows metabolism, causes fatigue and can interfere with sleep (see effects of fatigue and poor sleep below)
Candida yeast overgrowth and other dysbiosis carbohydrate cravings, toxicity leading to water retention; deterioration of mental focus, impairing judgment and impulse control
Allergies toxicity leading to water retention; loss of mental focus, impairing judgment and impulse control; can cause cravings for foods youre allergic to (Its surprisingly hard to determine allergies, since symptoms are often vague, delayed and random. They include fatigue; mental fogginess and mood changes.)
Depression can lead to eating to suppress feelings and numb the body
Adrenal depletion slows the metabolism, leading to susceptibility to food, airborne and contact allergies, causes fatigue and may interfere with sleep, increases hunger for carbohydrates, may interfere with blood sugar control
Lack of adequate, restful sleep studies show inadequate sleep is directly related to a weakening of the metabolism and the adrenal glands, fatigue causes carbohydrate hunger
Nutrient deficiencies interferes with normal metabolism, may cause fatigue and cravings
Under-eating refers to under-eating at one time of the day; leads to low blood sugar (poor impulse control and carbohydrate cravings) and overeating later; slows metabolism, making it too efficient
Over-exercising slows metabolism, especially if caloric intake is too low before and after exercising
Toxicity water retention, brought on by the bodys defensive mechanism of diluting the toxins to lessen their damaging effects. (The solution to pollution is dilution.) Causes changes in normal taste reception leading to less desire for healthy foods, greater desire for salty and sugar-y foods.
Estrogen dominance (in both males and females) - water retention, increased fat building, increased hunger leading to more calories, more hunger
